Welcome

The Center for Medical Simulation in Poznan was initiated in 2009. It began as a vague idea and quickly evolved into reality. We openned our doors on October 27, 2010 as the first multidisciplinary medical simulation center in the Republic of Poland. Over the course of the year we grew from 2 faculty members to over 25 and teaching across disciplines including medicine, midwives, nursing, paramedics, pharmacists and physical therapists.

In our first year we trained over 1000 students and were recognized as a national leader in simulation. We had the honor of being nominated as a finalist for the national "Golden Scalpel" award for innovation in medicine in May 2010. More importantly we were assessed to be the best educational experience at the University by the students.

We have expanded our reach to training faculty as medical simulation educators and in crisis resource management. Our rapid expansion has now lead us to start planning for the future as a Center for Innovation in Medical Education and Healthcare.

We welcome you for collaboration and to visit our Center!PUMS

History

The idea for creating the Center for Medical simulation was sparked in the spring of 2009 after Rektor Jerzy Wysocki and associate Professor K. Ziemnicka visited the Center for Human Simulation and Patient Safety at VCU Medical Center in Richmond, Virginia. Michael Czekajlo, MD, PhD an almnus of Poznan University of Medical Sciences and VCU faculty member had extended the invitation for Rektor Wysocki and Prof Ziemnicka to visit VCU.

Upon their return to Poland Rektor Wysocki assigned Dr. Lukasz Gasiorowski to lead the initiative for creating a simulation center in Poznan. The deciding factor in the creation of the center was Dr. Gasiorowski’s participation in the PAALSS Conference at VCU and the IMSH conference in Phoenix, Arizona (January 2010).

In April 2010 thanks to an EU grant the CSM received 1.5 million zloty to start the simulation center. Space was located in the Collegium Stomatologicum. Thanks to the assistance of Mr. David Walton and Drs. Ellen Brock and Michael Czekajlo of VCU the planning of the simulation center was accomplished within a few weeks.

Design to completion of construction was done in a matter of 5 months.

The Center was inaugurated on October 27th, 2010 during the Innovations 2010: Medical Simulation, eLearning and Telemedicine conference .
